La Fiermontina is a rare property indeed – a historical retreat in the heart of Lecce’s old quarter but with tranquil gardens and a refreshing swimming pool.

Throughout its sixteen unique guestrooms and suites, the hotel features the traditional pietra di Trani floors seen in noble homes throughout the Salento region. Star-pinnacled ceilings, fireplaces and intimate balconies enhance many of these private quarters, all finished by the French interior design firm C.P. and C. with graceful Italian furniture, custom textiles and organic, locally produced bath products.

Antiques and contemporary artwork belonging to the Parisian owner, including pieces by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Tobia Scarpa round out these photogenic yet utterly welcoming interiors.

To realize this tribute to his native born grandmother, the Parisian owner sought out the eminent Pugliese architect, Antonio Annicchiarico who has realized projects for director Roberto Benigni and the Hermes family. “Only someone from Puglia,” he asserts, “could create something this modern yet entirely Leccese.” Their shared dream is built of the soft stone used to carve 18th century churches along nearby Via Libertini with the pietra di Trani floors found in noble homes throughout Salento.
